So far we had come quite a long way on our little family excursion and even our more than 30-year-old vehicle hadn't let us down. After we caught a coalfish and a cod directly in the fjord at our spot near Børsa, our journey continued towards Östersund. The idea was not to do the whole route in Norway on the super twisty little roads. Sweden is also beautiful and the chance of seeing moose is much higher than in Fjordland.
So we drove to Järpen first, because that's where Lundhags is headquartered. I think it is an almost uncompromising manufacturer of outdoor clothing, which of course also has a factory outlet. On the way we wanted to make a night stop and found a beautiful place right next to a river. When I opened the door to take a closer look at it, I was immediately greeted by countless bloodthirsty little beasts. They were there earlier, so to speak, and claimed the space for themselves or only in exchange for a small blood donation. We drove on quickly and then decided on a campsite. There were also mosquitoes here, but a lot less than on the river. The children could still play on the playground and I prepared the two fish for dinner.
The next day we went to Järpen, I actually found a pair of pants that I liked and a new windshield for the stove. The old one had been in service for 30 years and was soon in danger of dying of old age. Then we drove on to Östersund. On the one hand it is on the route and on the other hand we still wanted to wash and visit the factory outlet of another Swedish manufacturer - Woolpower. I also love these things very much, but I could only afford them when they were in the super sale (unfortunately that rarely happened).
After the massacre, which we almost fell victim to the river the night before, we made another decision: to drive the route through Sweden at night again. And indeed, we saw moose, rabbits, foxes and reindeer and then crossed the Arctic Circle around 5am. As in the past, it was wonderful to drive alone through the woods and to experience dreamlike atmospheres. Half past six we reached a beautiful place at the Misværfjord. We had to share this with a few other campers, but that wasn't too bad. The following two days we had almost 30°C and sun to relax a bit.
After we had recovered from the night drive we went to Bodø, from where we took the ferry to Moskenes on the southern Lofoten. The crossing took 4 hours and was very quiet. We arrived in the evening, made a short detour to Å and then looked for a beautiful asphalt rest area right next to the main road. We quickly realized that it is extremely difficult to find nice pitches at Lofoten, let alone being alone there.
But fortunately, that was a little in the background, because nature overshadowed nearly everything we had seen so far. We were almost blinded by the green meadows that led up to the steep rock faces, unless they protruded directly from the sea. In between, beautiful bays and Caribbean beaches that you would not have expected despite the guidebook. I was able to experience one with a short trail run to Kvalvika. The sight was truly breathtaking and the run incredibly beautiful. In an hour I was back on the bus without any stress.
After a few days we left the southern part behind and drove slowly towards the north-east. The weather was like ours in April and therefore also offered fantastic moments. Unfortunately, we all got sick at the end of our little Lofoten tour, but we were lucky that we were able to recover in the most beautiful places by the sea. Now it was time to say goodbye to Lofoten and experience the next natural wonders...
